2020 TOYOTA RAV4

Image
Right about the time I’d passed 30 miles of all-electric driving with the RAV4 Prime plug-in hybrid, I knew this experience was going to be different. There was plenty of charge left.  With an expected EPA-rated 42-mile range from a big 18.1-kwh battery pack, the RAV4 Prime promises to transport commuters to work and back again without tailpipe emissions or the need to find another charge along the way. And then it becomes a 38-mpg hybrid after running through the charge, That and the Prime's suggested availability across the U.S., not just in California or a few select states, means it picks up right where the Chevy Volt left off .  Even better, it is the hottest crossover in these crossover-crazy times. The RAV4 is not only the top-selling SUV in the U.S. market for three years; the RAV4 Hybrid was also the top-selling hybrid in America last year—handily outselling the Toyota Prius.  The Prime finally checks nearly all the tech and special-needs boxes....

Will GPS work on moon also?

Image
If astronauts reach the moon according to NASA’s Artemis project plan, one of their main goals is to mine ice in the crater near the moon’s South Pole. However, they will need to accurately navigate to the site. They already have equipment such as landing ships, lunar vehicles, drilling equipment, and supply vehicles. However, on the moon’s orbit or on a very strange surface of the moon, they need to know their position in real-time and accurately. Of course, they will need a GPS for this. Nevertheless, will a GPS work accurately? On Earth, global positioning systems (GPS) have changed our lives. A number of countries operate a large number of satellites that help people navigate in many ways. On Earth, GPS can pinpoint locations in centimeters. Can it help astronauts land on the moon? YES – GPS WILL WORK ON THE MOON Zhang Jiaing and Li Charles of the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory performed some mathematical calculations on the possibility. Mathematically...

Why most of the planes are white?

Image
From helping to keep aircraft cool to minimising bird strikes, here are four reasons commercial aircraft are almost always this colour. Every airline has branding on its planes, but for the most part all planes are painted white. Why? The light color reflects sunlight and solar radiation while the plane is in flight and keeps the cabin cool. “It’s basically like putting sunblock on”. Why are most planes white? It’s not their natural color. Companies use over 65 gallons of paint per plane. But why? The main reason why aircraft are painted white or light colors is to reflect sunlight and minimize both the heating and any potential damage from the solar radiation. It’s basically the same as putting sunblock on. For example, on a sunny day if you’re wearing a dark-colored shirt, you’ll heat up more than if you will if you’re wearing a white-colored shirt. A cooler plane means cheaper cooling costs for airlines. But it’s not just about saving money.  The most important p...

The great electric car race is just beginning

Image
On the southern edge of Brussels, where the city turns to suburbs, the future of Germany’s most successful automaker is taking shape inside a peculiar sort of car factory. Here, there are no exhaust pipes, transmissions or fuel tanks. There are no spark plugs, radiators or manifolds. What the Volkswagen Group factory does have, however, are batteries stacked to the rafters. Thirty-six shoebox-sized battery modules, each containing a dozen lithium-ion cells, are packed into seven-foot long electric-battery packs and slung under the floor of each sport utility vehicle produced here. The first electric SUV from Volkswagen’s luxury audi brand, the e-tron, can go 400 kilometers (nearly 250 miles) on a single battery cycle and be recharged in as little as half an hour. The styling is conventional, the interior is luxurious and the ride is nearly silent. The e-tron SUV has one job for Volkswagon :Prove that a carmaker that has relied almost exclusively on the internal combust...

BMW 3 SERIES(ELECTRIC): All you would like to know .....

Image
Some time ago, BMW said it wouldn’t build an electric 3 Series. But it seems plans have changed, if we are to believe the latest spy photos, which indicate that a pure electric 3 Series might be on the way. However, this is not your ordinary 3 Series.  Recently, spy photographers scooped what looks to be an early prototype of a future electric 3 Series model . for more electric cars As seen from the spy shots, the camouflaged test vehicles is based on the long-wheelbase G28 model series, given the longer rear doors. Our own sources say that BMW is indeed testing an electric 3 Series electric on a long-wheelbase platform which is destined for the Chinese market only. But why the long-wheelbase and not the regular G20 3 Series? Apparently, by using the longer track of the 3 Series, BMW engineers are able to fit an adequate battery pack which will provide a decent electric range.  As you’d expect, the heavy camouflaged front fascia displays some visible...

Covid-19 outbreak to impact electric vehicle production

Image
The novel coronavirus (Covid-19) crisis has caused a slowdown of China’s economic growth, and with China being a global manufacturing powerhouse, is having a negative impact on the global economic growth as well. The majority of the production facilities remain closed or are not able to attain full production capacity due to shortage of staff and raw materials. These actions have adversely impacted stock markets worldwide. Corresponding to the spread of this coronavirus outbreak, uncertainties are on the rise. The coronavirus outbreak in China is going to have an effect on the green energy sector, including renewable energy sources, battery energy storage, electric vehicles (EVs), and renewable heating and cooling. China is a world leader when it comes to renewable investments, which can be seen in the country’s wind power installation, wind turbine manufacturing and solar photovoltaic (PV) manufacturing. The country is increasing its portfolio of renewables, decreasing coa...

Is This, Finally, The Affordable Electric Car?

Image
The electric car revolution won’t succeed until new battery-only vehicles are affordable to average income buyers and a sneak preview ahead of the cancelled Geneva Auto Show showed the industry was still nowhere near achieving this promised land.    It’s not that there aren’t plenty of small cars that look like they should be affordable. But the electric BMW Mini and even the Honda e are completely out of reach of the average buyer. The European industry must be able to reach out to the mass market with mass market prices for electric cars. Currently, a quality small city car in Europe with a gasoline engine costs about 12,000 euros ($13,200) after tax. Electrified city cars sell for at least twice that. An electric Mini, which must look miniscule to American eyes, will cost almost 3 times as much.   There are some new small electric cars which should have been unveiled at ill-fated Geneva 2020, including the Fiat 500 EV and Renault subsidiary Dacia’s EV. Don’...

Electric cars produce less CO2 than petrol vehicles, study confirms

Image
Electric vehicles produce less carbon dioxide than petrol cars across the vast majority of the globe – contrary to the claims of detractors, who have alleged thain the production of electricity and their manufacture outweighs the benefits. The finding is a boost to governments, including the UK, seeking to move to net zero carbon emissions, which will require a massive expansion of the electric car fleet. A similar benefit was found for electric heat pumps. In the UK, transport is now the biggest contributor to the climate crisis and domestic heating has been stubbornly stuck on natural gas for much of the country. Across the world, passenger road vehicles and household heating generate about a quarter of all emissions from the burning of fossil fuels. That makes electric vehicles essential to reducing overall emissions, but how clean an electric vehicle is also depends on how the electricity is generated, the efficiency of the supply and the efficiency of the v...

ELECTRIC CARS WORKING EXPLAINED

Image
How Do All-Electric Cars Work? All-electric vehicles (EVs) have an electric motor instead of an internal combustion engine. The vehicle uses a large traction battery pack to power the electric motor and must be plugged in to a  charging station  or wall outlet to charge. Because it runs on electricity, the vehicle emits no exhaust from a tailpipe and does not contain the typical liquid fuel components, such as a fuel pump, fuel line, or fuel tank.  Learn more about electric vehicles . Key Components of an All-Electric Car Battery (all-electric auxiliary):  In an electric drive vehicle, the auxiliary battery provides electricity to power vehicle accessories. Charge port:  The charge port allows the vehicle to connect to an external power supply in order to charge the traction battery pack. DC/DC converter:  This device converts higher-voltage DC power from the traction battery pack to the lower-voltage DC power needed to run vehicle acces...
